Psycho-
Even though this is Joe's favorite Hitchcock movie we don't have it on dvd. There are technical issues that keep us from buying any of the editions currently available.
It had been a while since I had seen this movie. So, when I saw that it would be starting in 10 minutes on AMC I decided I would record it. When I did I never thought that Joe and I would end up watching it....I thought that I would just look at a couple of scenes to refresh my memory.
BUT... we brought home some subs and put it on as background while we ate and ended up watching the whole thing.
It was a really cute experience.... we watch it in our family room.

Starman
Nick & Nora (bek only)-
I don’t know what I should say about this movie.
I loved watching it.
Joe was at work doing overtime, I was alone.
The fact that he would be doing undesired overtime had caused a lot of tension for both of us. However, he was gone, and there was nothing left for me but resolution to the situation.
The silver lining in all of this was that I discovered that I had free time at night. (a unique situation) I looked through the Stars on-demand list and thought I would just peek at this movie(because I was a fan of Nick and Nora Charles as a child), but I ended up watching the whole thing.
I laughed a lot, and loudly, I cried little happy tears when things went well for the characters I had become fond of, and I worried… foolishly … when there was a criss -cross of emotion or event. The movie hit the right spot for me that night.
I’m a little afraid of a second viewing. There was something in my mood that made it taste a little sweeter…. And in a sentimental way I might just leave it at that.

4 Day Weekend (Anniversary)
Valley Girl- Netflix
The Last Chase-(collection) I had been looking for this movie for a long time. I finally found a torrent ....... and...........it was great seeing it again.
Cars are outlawed in the future so the Fall Guy and Woody the Wabbit are being chased by the penguin in a biplane trying to shoot their car before they get...someplace safe.
It is exactly how I remembered it (except it was a jet not a biplane)
.....Fucking bizarre vision of the future....
Old Enough -Showtime
Airplane -Netflix
Mr.Mom -Netflix
Star Wars (Episode I) -collection
Star Wars (A New Hope)-collection
Where Have all the People Gone -collection
When I described this one to Joe I basically said this.... there are some people in a cave when there is a solar flare... and everyone dies, except for them and some other people they find in a school bus. One guy is trying to find his mom, but she is home in bed and is like a rotting corpse, even though everyone else turned to powder when they died... I think she was only half protected by the school bus or something.
Once again I was slightly wrong.... but ... I am learning to live with that.
This was a really solid movie that hit on so many things that I love. It was one of the few movies that I made Joe watch (and hear about forever)that was actually enjoyable throughout. Usually they will have high and then very low spots...
One funny coincidence.... we rented Airplane this same weekend (also with Peter Graves) so we made many jokes while watching using the "Have you ever seen a grown man naked" line.
Bad Ronald-(collection)
This is another one of the torrents that I tracked down.... I only saw the movie once when I was young, but, the general concept stuck with me.
This is what I remembered; A mentally impaired young man accidentally kills a girl. His mother hides him in a fake room in the house, and he lives there. The mother dies ... a new family moves in ... and he watches them through the walls.
From that starting point I invented my own movie.... a grittier more disturbed movie than the one I down loaded. I (like always) made the movie more sexual. I remembered Ronald being innocent and misunderstood at first.... and then becoming more violent and delusional. I also had the impression that Ronald was a large, adult, strong man with a boy's brain and that he could not control his emotions or desires watching the girl that moved into the house.
I think I may have been mixing up a couple of movies "Dark Night of the Scarecrow" had a similar story ..... and the misunderstood mentally retarded man in that movie (played be Larry Drake) fits my impression much better than the scrawny nerd type that actually played Ronald.
Also in my head Ronald was sympathetic in that Frankenstien's monsters sort of way.... I remember checking the thickness of our walls at home and thinking if I did find a crazy man boy, I would just be nice to him ... and things would be fine.
The real movie was.... well ....less than I had made it in my head... Ronald was more belligerent and less sympathetic than I expected when he murdered the girl.... and then things never really got hot in the movie after that.
Although it was awesome to see it again after all this time, I am glad that it was hard to find. I had a long time to invent and imagine.
Phenomena -collection
Dead & Buried -collection
Ghostbusters -netflix
This just came out in Bluray so we rented it.... however we did not watch any of the extras on the disc because we will be buying it in the future.

Urban Cowboy(Netflix)
Joe liked this a little more than me, although I didn't dislike it... I just thought the end wrap-up was a little too easy. I was very interested in the first half of the movie, and then heros became heros and villians became clear cut....
Ghost World(collection)
I have seen this before... but it really hit me this time. I felt a little less unique in the world when aenid pulled out her journal and it looked like one of mine...at least the cover. .....But I really felt something.... some connection. I understand watching the people who are odd fits in the world and kind of falling in love with them.
Wayne's World II I didn't like this.
Slumdog Millionaire
Midnight Hour
Arthur C. Clark Strange Powers - Stigmata episode

Memorial Day Weekend
My Bloody Valentine (remake)-Netflix
There have been many "in name only" re-imaginings of 70's and 80's horror films..... and I try to view them for their own merits, but, I won't lie, I find myself naturally drawing comparisons to their namesakes.
The My Bloody Valentine remake took more than just the title from the original film. It followed the same basic story, and the three main characters in the movie keep a similar relationship. Having common ground it is difficult for me not to see how the two movies match up. And when I do compare them, this new movie falls way short of the original.
I don't want to boil everything down to I liked it or I didn't like it ..... If I have to pick I would say like it. However, I find it pretty forgettable .......and I might just be old ..... but there is a modern sensibility in horror movies that I don't find myself attached to. There was a lot of nice gore and nudity ,( I don't say that as a backhanded stab,I really like sex and nudity and violence playing off of one another in fiction). However the story seem bogged down in clever...and wrapped around some idea of reality... and it broke away from some of the formal experiences I really enjoy and appreciate about the slasher genera.
My Bloody Valentine-(Collection) Joe and I watch this movie every year for Valentines Day and that tradition means more to me than cards and flowers.
Staying Alive-Netflix
Two of a Kind-Netflix (direct download)
Way back when, I saw this movie in the theater because I was obsessed with Olivia Newton John. Even at the time I was disappointed with the movie.... but there were a few scenes and songs that pulled me through it, and I came out liking it enough to watch it every time it played on cable. So .... after watching Grease I convinced Joe that we should put it on the cue.....
It wasn't so good, I kind of thought that nostalgia would carry me through it .... but it wasn't absurd enough to be fun, or bad enough to be cheesy. It just wasn't so good.... and it was pretty boring to watch.
