My Bloody Valentine (remake)-Netflix
There have been many "in name only" re-imaginings of 70's and 80's horror films..... and I try to view them for their own merits, but, I won't lie, I find myself naturally drawing comparisons to their namesakes.
The My Bloody Valentine remake took more than just the title from the original film. It followed the same basic story, and the three main characters in the movie keep a similar relationship. Having common ground it is difficult for me not to see how the two movies match up. And when I do compare them, this new movie falls way short of the original.
I don't want to boil everything down to I liked it or I didn't like it ..... If I have to pick I would say like it. However, I find it pretty forgettable .......and I might just be old ..... but there is a modern sensibility in horror movies that I don't find myself attached to. There was a lot of nice gore and nudity ,( I don't say that as a backhanded stab,I really like sex and nudity and violence playing off of one another in fiction). However the story seem bogged down in clever...and wrapped around some idea of reality... and it broke away from some of the formal experiences I really enjoy and appreciate about the slasher genera.
My Bloody Valentine-(Collection) Joe and I watch this movie every year for Valentines Day and that tradition means more to me than cards and flowers.

Two of a Kind-Netflix (direct download)
Way back when, I saw this movie in the theater because I was obsessed with Olivia Newton John. Even at the time I was disappointed with the movie.... but there were a few scenes and songs that pulled me through it, and I came out liking it enough to watch it every time it played on cable. So .... after watching Grease I convinced Joe that we should put it on the cue.....
It wasn't so good, I kind of thought that nostalgia would carry me through it .... but it wasn't absurd enough to be fun, or bad enough to be cheesy. It just wasn't so good.... and it was pretty boring to watch.
